Biggest Little Banquet returns bigger and better

Following on from an amazing event last year, the Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce will again be hosting the Biggest Little Banquet down Mullumbimby’s main street.

On the evening of Saturday, 3 September, Burringbar Street will be closed off and a single table will run its length with enough room to seat 300 people to a three-course meal.

The Banquet will be prepared by local restaurants including Spice it up Thai, The Courthouse Hotel, and Poinciana, while Mullumbimby High School students will once again prepare the desserts and wait on patrons. Vegetarian options will be available.

Mullumbimby Community Gardens are growing a range of produce for the restaurants to feature in the meals and the gardens will be supporting the waste-wise plastic free event by collecting food waste for compost.

Chamber President Obi McDonald-Saint says the event is about bringing the community together.

“We had so much positive feedback from last year’s event, we were very excited about organising this year’s banquet,” Obi says.

“There’s something very special about hundreds of people from the community breaking bread at one table.”

The Banquet will be pirate themed and an adults 18+ only affair. Prepare for some piratic fun and games to complement the evening’s festivities.

BYO alcohol will not be permitted, as organic wine and beer will be available at two marquees on the night.

Tickets are now on sale for $50 at the Mullumbimby Newsagency.

Mullum Chamber elects new executive committee

Obi McDonald-Saint, Dean Stanford, Margaret Hatch and Trent Morris.
Obi McDonald-Saint, Dean Stanford, Margaret Hatch and Trent Morris.

The Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce commenced its second year, welcoming a new executive committee at this year’s AGM.

The new executives were Dean Stanford of Mullumbimby Newsagency as President and Trent Morris of Rock n Roll Coffee Company as Vice President.

The Secretary and Treasurer positions were filled by Mullum Mac’s Obi McDonald-Saint and Margaret Hatch of Mooyabil Farm Holidays respectively.

Jeannette Martin of Mullumbimby Community Gardens and David Piesse of Keep It Local were elected as executive members while Janelle Stanford took on the role of Public Relations and Sue Walker the task of Minutes Secretary.

Following a robust discussion at the AGM, the Chamber, made up of more than 50 businesses and community organisations, formalised its plans for developing and growing Mullumbimby businesses and the community in general.

“We don’t want to be seen as a Chamber that has only the business interests at heart,” Chamber president Dean Stanford said.

“We have a very vibrant and supportive community in Mullumbimby and this is the major contributor to Mullumbimby’s business success.”

Some of the plans include a sculpture walk along Mullumbimby’s bike paths, showcasing the artistic talent of the area, organising a community festival for later in the year, and providing free wireless internet to the centre of Mullumbimby.

The Chamber is also rolling out a branding campaign to promote Mullumbimby to both a local audience as well as visitors to the area.

If you run a local business or community organisation and would like to join the Chamber or would like more information about the services the Chamber provides, please contact the Secretary Obi McDonald-Saint on 0410 189 664 or email secretary@mullumbimby.org.au.

Mullum Chamber launches new website

Mullum-Chamber-of-Commerce-Logo9Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce has been working hard to build a website that not only represents the business interests of the community but also actively promotes business growth within the community.

The website aims to promote local business by maintaining an online directory of Mullumbimby businesses, which will feature contact details, trading hours, a Google map with the location of the business as well as an image gallery of the products each business sells.

In conjunction with the launch of the website, the Chamber has planned a number of events to help draw more people to Mullumbimby and put the biggest little town in Australia on the map.
